What CellPulse Does

CellPulse reads battery data from your electric vehicle via a Bluetooth OBD-II adapter. All data is processed on your device. No account is required.

Data Stored on Your Device

Battery health reports (cell voltages, temperatures, health score, vehicle info) are saved locally on your iPhone. They are not uploaded anywhere unless you explicitly share them.

Sharing Reports

When you share a PDF report, it may include the battery health score, cell voltages, temperatures, pack configuration, odometer, and a partially masked VIN. This sharing is initiated by you — CellPulse does not send reports to anyone automatically.

Anonymous Telemetry (Opt-In)

After your first scan, CellPulse asks if you'd like to share anonymous battery statistics to help build a reference dataset. This is entirely optional. If you opt in, the following data is sent:

• Cell voltages and temperatures
• Health score
• Vehicle make, model, and year (e.g., "Volkswagen ID.4 2021")
• Pack configuration (capacity, chemistry)
• Odometer reading
• A one-way hash of your VIN (used to avoid counting the same car twice — your actual VIN cannot be recovered from it)
• Country code (derived from your IP address by our server — no GPS or location data is sent from your device)

The following is never collected:

• Your name, email, or any account information
• Your actual VIN in plain text
• Your location or GPS data
• Any data from your phone (contacts, photos, etc.)

You can change your telemetry preference at any time in Settings.

Where Telemetry Data Is Stored

Anonymous telemetry is stored on Cloudflare R2 (cloud storage). Individual scan data is never sold or shared with third parties. It is used solely to compute aggregate statistics (such as percentile scores across similar vehicles), which may be displayed in the app.

VIN Decoding

CellPulse sends your VIN to the NHTSA vPIC API (a free U.S. government service) to look up your vehicle's make, model, and year. This request goes directly to NHTSA — CellPulse does not store or relay your VIN through our servers.

Third-Party Services

• NHTSA vPIC API — VIN decoding (U.S. government, vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov)
• Cloudflare — Telemetry endpoint hosting and storage
• Apple TestFlight — Beta distribution (Apple's standard privacy terms apply)

Children

CellPulse is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
